If you know the story of Swan Lake, either from the ballet or, what do I know, The Swan Princess or wherever, you pretty much already know Odile's canon.

Her father, a great sorcerer and advisor to the queen of some fairy tale country, had decided he wanted all the power for himself, but not at his own peril, no. He wanted to bring the prince - soon to be king - under his control and use him as a puppet to carry out his orders instead. When the prince one night met and fell in love with one of the many swan maidens that the sorcerer kept in the forest for his own leisure, the sorcerer saw his chance at finally putting the prince under his spell, too. At an upcoming ball, where the prince was hopefully awaiting his white swan, the sorcerer disguised his daughter as a swan maiden just like her, only clad in all-black, and her own special brand of magic won him over completely, until he swore his love and fidelity to her, although he had promised to be true to the white swan queen. This made the evil magic that the sorcerer had put her under last forever, unbreakable, and she was doomed to remain a swan until her death. Regardless of teary farewells and desperate fights against it, it could not be undone. Evil won over good. The sorcerer made the prince live up to his word, marrying his black-hearted daughter, so she would be queen - and he could reign through them both.

The sorcerer was Rothbart, the white swan was Odette, the prince was Siegfried and the black swan was Odile.

THE GUILLOTINE

lay down your swords, lay down your pistols / call off your dogs, show no resistance / you'll fall like a guillotine, and kneel before the queen / you'll fall like a guillotine, and I will rise.
